Though the Council is not sure whether it will spend the grant money from the Federal Government or not. Anyway, the program is federally funded and it seeks to connect important institutions that are required for the development of the community as a whole and some 4600 homes in low-income neighborhood and provide them with high speed internet access, provided they wish to be part of the program and utilize the service properly.
And even if the council decides not to use the money funded by the centre, it is highly likely that Google wouldn’t require additional funds as it may link/associate its Fiber Optic broadband project to provide high speed internet services to Champaign-Urbana community.
Google is accepting applications for its highly adventitious high speed fiber optic broadband services from economically and culturally diverse communities till March 26, 2010. In case of Urbana community, getting all the information as desired by Google could be a little time consuming but the council is trying its best to speed up the entire process.
